Al Lewis, the voice of Utah State University Athletics, will be honored by the Utah Sports Hall of Fame Foundation Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Salt Lake City.
Lewis, who has served as the play-by-play announcer for Aggie Athletics for nearly two decades, will receive the annual Distinguished Service Award at the Paul Ream Scholarship/Distinguished Service Banquet.The banquet takes place at the South Towne Exposition Center in Sandy with a reception at 6:15 p.m. and the banquet at 7 p.m.
Others to be honored along with Lewis include Hal Gene Hardcastle, Mike Dmitrich, Steve Heiner and eight Utah high school students who will receive the Ream Scholarship.
Lewis, who has been the program and sports director at KVNU 610 AM in Logan since 1973, has been involved with Aggie Athletics since the early 1970s. Over the past four decades, Lewis has served as both the play-by-play and color announcer of Utah State football and basketball games. He has also spent time as the public address announcer for both sports, and was even involved in television broadcasts of Aggie Athletics.
Lewis, a Cache Valley native, graduated from Utah State University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism.
