Aggie Men to Appear on ESPN at least Six Times During 2009-10 Season
The Western Athletic Conference announced its 2009-10 men's basketball ESPN television schedule Wednesday [Sept. 23] and Utah State University will be one of its most featured teams as it will appear on the ESPN family of networks a minimum of six times throughout the season.
Among its six games on the ESPN family of Networks, three will be on ESPN2 including two in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Utah State's first appearance on ESPN2 will be Jan. 13, 2010, when it plays at Nevada, followed by home games against Idaho and Louisiana Tech on Feb. 3 and Feb. 17, respectively. All games on ESPN2 will begin at 9 p.m. (MT).
Utah State will also have two of its games televised on ESPNU as it plays at New Mexico State Jan. 2 and hosts Nevada Feb. 6. USU's other regular season appearance on ESPN will be a regional broadcast from Fresno State Jan. 21.
"Our television exposure in the WAC has greatly increased with the new ESPN contract and I have always believed TV exposure is irreplaceable in terms of the good it does for your program and the conference,” said USU head coach Stew Morrill. “Obviously, we are excited to be on the ESPN family of networks at least six times during the upcoming season."
All nine WAC schools will appear on ESPN during the 2009-10 season, and a total of 20 WAC games will be broadcast. Additionally, games determined by ESPN's BracketBuster could increase the number of WAC games broadcast by ESPN.
In all, six regular season games will be shown on ESPN2, six on ESPNU and five on ESPN Regional Television (ERT). In addition, the WAC Tournament championship game and a minimum of one semifinal will also be shown on ESPN2, while ESPNU will broadcast a minimum of one quarterfinal game.
Utah State begins the 2009-10 season with an exhibition game Friday, Oct 30, against Northwest Nazarene. USU will then conclude its preseason Saturday, Nov. 7, against Trinity Western followed by its season-opener at Weber State Friday, Nov. 13.
