Aggie Spikers Open 2010 Season versus UC Davis Saturday

Utah State [University] begins its 34th season of collegiate volleyball with an overall record of 542-640-8 (.459). The Aggies have played in the NCAA Tournament three times in school history (2000, 2001, 2005), advancing to the second round in 2000 and 2001. USU has produced 10 All-Americans in its history, one academic All-American and a national championship in 1978, followed by a runner-up finish in 1979. Utah State has also had two players play professionally in Elaine Roque and Karolyn Kirby, who was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2004.
 
THIS WEEK
Utah State begins the 2010 season in Salt Lake City at the Utah Classic Aug. 28. USU will open the tournament against UC Davis Saturday at 1 p.m. at Crimson Court on the University of Utah campus. Utah State will then play the host Utes Saturday night at 7 p.m.

LOOKING AT UTAH STATE
Utah State returns seven starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's team that went 15-14 overall and finished in seventh-place in the Western Athletic Conference with a 6-10 league record. Among the starters returning for USU are seniors Katie Astle (MB), Shantell Durrant (MB), Chelsea Fowles (S) and Christine Morrill (LIB), juniors Emily Kortsen (OPP) and Liz McArthur (OH), and sophomore Josselyn White (OH). Also returning for USU are three reserves in sophomores Laurel Bodily (LIB). Kassi Hargrove (S) and Shay Sorensen (OPP).
