Aggie Spikes Defeat Weber State in Three Games

LOGAN, Utah — Hailey Jeppson recorded 11 kills and a season-high seven blocks to lead Utah State's volleyball team to a three-game win (30-25, 30-20, 30-20) against in-state rival Weber State here Tuesday night [Sept 5].
Utah State has now won eight straight matches against Weber State and improved to 4-2 on the season with the win, while the Wildcats fell to 4-6 overall with the loss.
With game one tied at 23, Utah State scored seven of the next nine points to record the five-point win as it hit .186 (13-5-43), including six kills from Beth Hodge.
Utah State continued to play well in game two as it hit .219 (14-7-32) and held Weber State to a negative .152 (8-13-33) hitting percentage as the Aggies recorded 7.5 team blocks. Amanda Nielson led USU in the second game with five kills and three blocks, while Jeppson added four kills and five blocks.
The third and final game of the match was all Utah State as it scored the first five points and coasted to the 10-point win as it hit .200 (15-7-40) and held Weber State to a negative .125 (7-11-32) hitting percentage. Jeppson recorded four kills in the final game for USU, while Hodge and Nielson added three kills apiece.
Hodge finished the match with 12 kills and seven digs, and hit .243 (12-3-37) in the contest, while Nielson added 10 kills and five blocks. Monarisa Ale also had a solid match for USU as she hit .444 (4-0-9) on the night to go along with eight blocks.
Kolbie Murphey led Weber State with 10 kills and four blocks.
Overall, Utah State hit .200 (42-19-115) as compared to a negative .063 (28-35-111) hitting percentage for Weber State. USU also recorded five more team blocks (13-8) in the match.
Utah State will return to action this weekend in Salt Lake City as it will face Missouri State, Utah and Temple in the 2006 Utah Classic on Friday and Saturday.
