Benjamin Schilleman: America First Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Week

Utah State [University] golfer Benjamin Schilleman has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 4, it was announced on Monday [Oct. 5]. The award is voted on by a state media panel.
 
It is the first time that Schilleman has been named Utah State's Athlete of the Week.
 
Schilleman, a junior from Layton, Utah (Layton HS), finished tied for third overall with a five-under 211 (71-69-71) and led Utah State to a fourth-place team finish with a 10-over 874 (295-291-288) at the Purple & Red Invitational co-hosted by Utah and Weber State last week. Schilleman entered the final round of competition in fifth-place after carding rounds of 71 and 69, before shooting a one-under 71 during his final 18 holes.
 
Thus far this year, Schilleman has been USU's top finisher in both tournaments it has competed in as he tied for 20th at the Air Force Invitational. Through six rounds this year, Schilleman has a stroke average of 71.33.
 
Utah State is participating in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate this week in Palm Desert, Calif., and will conclude its fall schedule Saturday, Oct. 17, in St. George, Utah, at the Utah Shootout.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY — Sophomore Brian McKenna (Farmington, Utah) led Utah State to a ninth-place team finish at the Notre Dame Invitational last week as the Aggies defeated three nationally ranked teams (Georgia, Notre Dame, Princeton). McKenna cut the tape of the 8k course in 24:19 to finish 24th individually.
 
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY — Sophomore Jessie Chugg (Plain City, Utah) led the Aggie women to a 21st-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational last week. Chugg was the Aggies top finisher placing 121st in a time of 18:26 in the 5K race.
 
FOOTBALL — Junior defensive back Rajric Coleman (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) posted a career and game-high 13 tackles (six solo, seven assists) in Utah State's 35-17 loss at No. 20 Brigham Young last weekend. Coleman also had his first USU career interception, which set up the Aggies' lone field goal and pulled USU within 21-10 in the third quarter.
 
SOCCER — Sophomore goalkeeper Molli Merrill (Bountiful, Utah) allowed only two goals in 180 minutes of action last week as Utah State dropped a pair of 1-0 matches to Idaho State and Nevada. Merrill collected five saves against the Bengals and one save against the Wolf Pack.
 
VOLLEYBALL — Junior setter Chelsea Fowles (Hollister, Calif.) led Utah State to a pair of WAC wins last week as it defeated San Jose State (3-0) and Boise State (3-2). Against the Broncos, Fowles had career-highs with nine kills and 17 attempts, to go along with nine digs, four block assists and a season-high 56 assists in USU's come-from-behind win as it lost the first two sets before rallying with three straight wins. Versus the Spartans, Fowles had 24 assists, four digs, one block assist and one kill. During the week, Fowles hit .360 (10-1-25) and averaged 10.00 assists, 1.62 digs, 1.25 kills and 0.62 blocks per set.
