LOGAN, Utah — Cue the lights, raise the curtains — a musical theater production called “There’s No Business Like Show Business” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 8 in the Newel and Jean Daines Concert Hall.
Cache Valley Interfaith Choir is rolling out the red carpet for a night of show-stopping numbers, where the biggest hits from 30 iconic musicals will bring Broadway to life — no trip to Manhattan required.
Featuring hits from “Rent,” “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Les Misérables,” “Wicked,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” and “Man of La Mancha,” this production serves as both a celebration and a sampler, introducing audiences to new favorites they may want to explore long after the final curtain call.
“This is not just your average choir concert performing musical theater songs,” said Randy Wellbaum, artistic director of the Cache Valley Interfaith Choir. “It’s a full-scale production. We’ve brought in phenomenal guest soloists, incorporated costuming, and designed stunning projections and backgrounds to fully immerse the audience in each story. We’re even featuring an aerial silk artist to elevate the experience even further.”
A goal for Wellbaum is to fully immerse his audience in the story, conveying messages of resilience, belonging, and the transformative power of theater.
“My philosophy as a director is that musical theatre is unique among musical art forms because its primary purpose is to tell a story,” Wellbaum said. “If we, as musicians, neglect to tell that story and simply treat it as just another song, we're really not honoring that original intent and purpose behind why that song exists in the first place, which was to tell a story.”
With that in mind, Wellbaum has crafted a production that takes the audience on a journey, reinforcing the message that everyone matters, perseverance leads to triumph, and theater reflects life’s greatest lessons.
This spirit of unity and connection is also at the heart of the Cache Valley Interfaith Choir, which was created to offer a safe space for community members of all faiths and backgrounds to come together through the power of music.
“We strive to program inspiring repertoire across a variety of genres to help unite individuals and break down global barriers,” Wellbaum said. “Our mission is to uplift and inspire choir participants and community members.”
With choir members from a variety of religious and cultural backgrounds, the organization was created to foster a love for music at the intersection of faith.
"So many individuals from within the ensemble have personally made significant investments, donations, sacrifices, rearranged trips, things like that, to ensure that they can be a part of this concert and that we can make this concert happen with the original concert vision intact,” Wellbaum said.
This production is more than just a performance — it's a journey through the power of storytelling.
“When the audience leaves, they should feel uplifted, inspired, and amazed by the sheer variety of stories Broadway has told over the years,” Wellbaum said. “Even the most passionate musical theater enthusiasts will likely discover songs or shows they weren’t familiar with.”
The Cache Valley Interfaith Choir relies heavily on sponsors and community support to fund their productions. People can donate through the choir’s website or by contacting Randy Wellbaum for more information.
The choir is also always welcoming new members, offering an opportunity for individuals to join and share in the transformative power of music.
