Conquistadors' Helpers
Prior to the arrival of Spanish conquistadors, the Tlaxcalan Chichimecs were the main unconquered enemies of the mighty Aztec empire. As allies of Cortés, they were a major contributor to Spain’s successful conquest of Mexico. USU anthropologists have published the first English translation of a late 16th history of the Tlaxcalans, written by a native scribe.
