LOGAN, Utah — Utah State sprinter DJ Smith was named the Big West Conference male track athlete of the week it was announced by the league office on Wednesday [May 11].
Smith, a sophomore from Pleasanton, Calif., won the 100 and 200 meters at the Weber State Wildcat Twilight Invitational last week.
He claimed the 100 in a time of 10.49, the second fastest time in the Big West this season, and won the 200 with a time of 21.26. That performance was fourth on the Big West list this year.
Smith became the fifth USU track athlete to be recognized by the league this year as he joined two-time winner Zack Lloyd and one-time honorees Rod McNeal and Mike Nielson.
The Aggies are competing in the Big West Conference Championships Wednesday through Saturday [May 11-14] at Irvine, Calif. Smith will compete in the 100 and 200 preliminaries on Friday.
DJ Smith owns the Big West's second fastest 100 time this year.
