Donations Continue as Utah State Eyes Completion of North Endzone Complex

May 15, 2007

LOGAN — Construction on Utah State University's latest Athletics project, a North Endzone Facility in Romney Stadium, is moving along rapidly in anticipation of the start of the 2007 football season.

Demolition to the old building began during the first week of December, and over the past five months the three-story structure has taken shape and generated continued support from boosters and local businesses. A large amount of goods and services have already been donated by the community, which includes a number of recyclable materials that will make the new facility energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

The exterior of the North Endzone Facility continues to evolve as all of the structural steel was set in late April. Workers are now in the process of laying the bricks that will cover the first floor of the building on the north, east and west sides of the facility. The exterior glass on the south side will be set in early July, and crews will also be mounting a new scoreboard on top of the facility on May 17.

The interior of the building continues to progress as well as masonry walls for the locker rooms are completed and the lockers are scheduled to be installed in early June. Work is also continuing in the sports medicine area as three hydro-pools have already been installed, while painting in both the training and equipment rooms began this past week. Completion of those two areas should be the end of June, while the locker rooms are on schedule to be finished by the first of August.

The North Endzone Facility will serve to meet the academic and athletic needs of all 16 Utah State University intercollegiate sports. The state-of-the-art facility will house an extensively improved sports medicine department, new locker rooms, a Hall of Fame and a hospitality plaza on the first floor. The second floor will house coaches' offices and conference rooms, while classrooms, computer labs and tutoring rooms will reside on the third floor.

With less than four months before Utah State's season opener at home against UNLV on Thursday, Aug. 30, contributions and donations for the completion of the second and third floors of the facility are welcomed.
