Eleven Utah State Gymnasts Earn Scholastic All-America Award Accolades

Eleven members of Utah State's 2019-20 gymnastics team received Scholastic All-America Award accolades from the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA), it was announced Tuesday by the organization.
 
Lexi AragonEmma CobabeTaylor DittmarMorgan GillJessica GutierrezHadley HamarTori LoomisMikaela MeyerAriel ToomeyLeighton Varnadore and Logan Varnadore were all honored by the WCGA for carrying a 3.5 or higher GPA during the school year.
 
This is the third WCGA Scholastic All-America Award for both Dittmar and Leighton Varnadore, and the second for Meyer and Logan Varnadore.
 
Texas Woman's, Eastern Michigan, and Northern Illinois posted the top three team GPAs for the 2019-20 academic year based on data submitted to the WCGA. Overall, there were 53 teams with a team GPA of 3.5 or more on a 4.0 scale, an increase from 31 teams last year.
 
A record number of student-athletes, 193 (14.23 percent), recorded a 4.0 GPA, which is an increase from 8.91 percent from 2019. Eight schools had a team GPA greater than 3.8 and 18 over 3.7. All of these numbers are up from last year.
 
Texas Woman's posted the top team GPA with a 3.8881 and had 15 student-athletes with a GPA of 3.5 or more. The Pioneers finished fourth in team GPA last year and third in 2018. Besides having 93.75 percent of student-athletes with a 3.5 or better, head coach Lisa Bowerman's team had five team members with a 4.0 GPA.
 
Utah State had a team GPA of 3.52, an increase from last year's 3.19.
