Fraternity to Present Charity Concert to Help Pay Family's Medical Bills

From the Hard News Cafe 10/16/03

The Gamma Epsilon chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity will present the first Ag Stock Charity Concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Nelson Field House on the USU campus. The proceeds will be donated to the Thompson Family Donation Fund.

The concert, which the fraternity aimes to make an annual event, will feature local bands and will raise money for charitable groups or institutions. This year the bands Anonymous, Kristagong and others will perform at the concert.

Tickets for the concert are $8 at the door or $5 in advance and can be purchased at the USU ticket office or the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity House at 757 E. 700 North.

The proceeds will benefit the Thompson family of Utah County. Alex, 9, and Meagan, 21, daughters of Ric and Angie Thompson of Lehi, have been diagnosed with cancerous brain tumors.

Alex has a medulloblastoma and has been in Texas undergoing treatment. Insurance will not cover the treatment, and the family's funds are quickly becoming exhausted. Meagan has an anaplastic astrocytoma, and is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation at the Huntsman Cancer Center. Insurance is helping to cover her medical expenses. A donation fund was created in an effort to assist the family.

In an effort to fulfill the fraternity's mission to "establish positive and lasting relationships with our host institutions, alumni and communities," the brothers of the Gamma Epsilon chapter are committed to community service and philanthropic endeavors to benefit the communities of Utah.

The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity is a Greek letter, secret, college, social fraternity. It is composed of men who share similar ideals of friendship, truth, honor, and loyalty. Pi Kappa Alpha is dedicated to developing men of integrity, intellect, and high moral character and to fostering a truly lifelong fraternal experience. It was established at Utah State University in 1925.
