Jaycee Carroll Among Top Freshmen in the Country

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's Jaycee Carroll ranks among the top freshmen in the country according to the latest NCAA stats released on Tuesday. As of Jan. 11, Carroll ranks fifth in the nation among freshmen in scoring at 15.4 points per game.
 
Carroll, a 6-2 freshman guard from Evanston, Wyo., leads Utah State in scoring and is currently fourth in the Big West Conference at 15.4 points. Carroll also ranks first in the league and eighth in the NCAA in three-point field goal percentage at 51.4 percent, and sixth in the Big West in overall field goal percentage at 55.2 percent. Carroll is also averaging 20.3 points per game in three Big West contests which ranks first in the league.
 
Carroll scored a season-high 28 points against UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 6, which was the most points ever scored by a freshman in a single-game in school history. During that contest, he was 8-of-12 from three-point range, which tied for the second-most three's made in a single-game in school history. Those eight three-pointers are also tied for the second-most made in a single-game in the nation this year.

Among freshmen scorers, Toney Douglas of Auburn is the top scoring freshman in the country at 18.8 points, followed by Ricky Woods of Southeastern Louisiana (17.0), Aaron Bruce of Baylor (16.5), Reggie Williams of VMI (15.6), and Jaycee Carroll of Utah State (15.4).
 
Utah State, who is currently 11-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Big West Conference, travels to Pacific (10-2, 5-0) on Thursday, Jan. 13, and Cal State Northridge (6-7, 4-1) on Saturday, Jan. 15. The game against the Tigers will begin at 8:05 p.m. (MST), and Utah State's match-up with the Matadors will begin at 3:05 p.m. (MST) and will be televised live by Fox Sports Net West 2 and by Fox Sports Rocky Mountain.
