Jaycee Carroll Named Associated Press All-American

For the second year in a row, Utah State University's Jaycee Carroll has been named an All-American as the Associated Press announced its various team's Monday [March 31]. Carroll was one of 61 student-athletes to receive All-America honors from the Associated Press and one of 47 to earn honorable mention accolades.

Carroll, who also earned honorable mention All-American honors from the Associated Press as a junior, joins former Aggie great Wayne Estes as the only two players in school history to be named an All-American by the Associated Press as Estes earned first-team AP All-America honors following the 1965 season.

 

"To be part of such a select group is truly what makes you an All-American and if anyone defines being an All-American it's Jaycee Carroll," said USU head coach Stew Morrill. "He's had a fabulous career on and off the court, and he's got a bright future both in basketball and afterward. We are very, very proud of him and think it is a richly deserved honor."

 

Carroll was the only player from the Western Athletic Conference honored by the Associated Press and one of just two players from the state of Utah recognized as BYU's Lee Cummard was also named an AP honorable mention All-American.

 

Carroll, a 6-2 senior guard from Evanston, Wyo., was named the WAC's Player of the Year this past season as he finished first in the nation in three-point shooting at 49.8 percent, was second in free throw shooting at 91.9 percent, and 13th in scoring at 22.4 points per game.

 

For his career, Carroll ranks fourth all-time in NCAA history in three-point shooting at 46.5 percent, 12th in three-pointers made with 369, and 52nd in scoring with 2,522 points. He also holds 10 school records at Utah State, including being USU's all-time leading scorer.

 

Carroll's other honors this year include being named a second-team high-major All-American by CollegeHoops.net, a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District 14 second-team, and the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District VIII team, along with being named to the WAC's all-tournament team. He is also one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and one of five finalists for the Chip Hilton Player of the Year Award.
