Jaycee Carroll to Compete in Three-Point Shootout at Final Four

Utah State University’s Jaycee Carroll will compete in the 20th annual Three-Point Shootout in conjunction with the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas. The contest will take place at St. Mary’s University on Thursday, April 3, and be televised on ESPN at 7 p.m. (MT).

Carroll will be one of eight participants in the event along with Jamar Butler of Ohio State, Shan Foster of Vanderbilt, A.J. Graves of Butler, Chris Lofton of Tennessee, Derrick Low of Washington State, Drew Neitzel of Michigan State and Brian Roberts of Dayton.

 

“It’s really exciting to be invited to this event,” said Carroll. “There are only eight people in the nation invited and it will be a great opportunity to show what I can do. I think this competition will be really fun to watch, it will be very competitive, and you will have to shoot very well to have a chance to win.”

 

Carroll is the third Utah State player to be invited to the Final Four event and the first Aggie to participate in the three-point shooting contest.

 

Former Aggie greats Kevin Rice and Cardell Butler both competed in the slam dunk competition in 1998 and 2004, respectively.

 

Carroll, a 6-2 senior All-American guard from Evanston, Wyo., finished the season first in the nation in three-point shooting at 49.8 percent, was second in free throw shooting at 91.9 percent, and 13th in scoring with 22.4 points per game.

 

Carroll also barely missed becoming just the second player in NCAA history to shoot over 50 percent from both the field and three-point range, and over 90 percent from the free throw line for an entire season, as he was 114-229 from behind the arc (.498). He finished the year shooting 52.6 percent from the field and 91.9 percent from the free throw line. The only player to ever accomplish that feat was Arizona’s Salim Stoudamire during the 2004-05 season.

 

For his career, Carroll shot 46.5 percent from three-point range (369-793) which ranks fourth all-time in the history of the NCAA at the Division I level. He also ranks 12th all-time with his 369 made three-pointers, while his 2,522 career points rank 52nd all-time.

 

This season, Carroll was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, a United States Basketball Writer’s Association All-District VIII selection, a National Association of Basketball Coaches District 14 second-team selection, a second-team high-major All-American by CollegeHoops.net, and one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.
