Keeper Megan Mills Named Utah State Athlete of the Week

Oct. 4, 2004

Utah State goalkeeper Megan Mills recorded her 13th career shutout, including five saves, in a 0-0 tie against Pacific on Sunday (Oct. 3) that ended Utah State's nine-match road losing streak.

Mills, a senior from Sandy, Utah, holds Utah State's shutout record, recording eight more than any other goalie in school history. Mills also recorded nine saves in a 1-0 loss at Cal State Northridge on Friday.

In 2003, Mills was the Big West shutout leader as she recorded 10 shutouts. This year, she is fourth in the Big West in goals-against average only allowing 0.84 goals per game. She also has combined with fellow keeper Kelli Allred for three additional shutouts earlier this season against Weber State, UVSC and UC Davis. Mills currently holds six (career saves 247, saves in a season 93, career goals-against average 1.16, season GAA 0.81, career shutouts 13, and season shutouts 10) out of seven Utah State goalkeeper records.

Mills was selected honorable mention all-Big West in 2003 becoming only the second goalie in Big West history to record double-digit shutouts. She also earned academic all-Big West honors in both 2002 and 2003.

As a four-year letterwinner at Alta High School, Mills was named first team all-state during her junior and senior seasons and holds her high school's records for career saves, saves in a season and saves in a single game.

Utah State, which is 3-7-1, will play at Idaho on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m.
