Keeton Named Davey O'Brien Honorable Mention National QB of the Week
Utah State's [University] Chuckie Keeton has been named a Davey O'Brien honorable mention national Quarterback of the Week it was announced Monday [Sept. 10, 2012]. Keeton was also named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Keeton, a 6-1, 200-pound sophomore quarterback from Houston, Texas (Cypress Creek HS), completed 22-of-32 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns in Utah State's 27-20 overtime home win against Utah, snapping a 12-game losing streak to the Utes, including six in a row at home. The 22 completions and 32 attempts both tied previous career-highs. Keeton also carried the ball a career-high 17 times for a career-high 86 yards, including a 23-yard scramble in overtime to set up the winning touchdown.
Louisiana-Monroe’s Kolton Browning was named the Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Week after the Redhawks upset No. 8 Arkansas, 34-31. Other quarterbacks from across the country to earn honorable mention Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Week honors include Matt Barkley (USC), Brett Hundley (UCLA), Collin Klein (Kansas State), Braxton Miller (Ohio State) and Aaron Murray (Georgia).
On the season, Keeton ranks first in the WAC and 11th nationally in passing efficiency (173.5), second in the WAC and tied for 15th nationally in passing yards per game (260.0), and second in the WAC and 25th nationally in total offense (304.50).
Utah State, 2-0 for the first time since 1997, is ranked tied for 41st in the nation in the latest Associated Press top 25 poll. Overall, USU has won seven-straight regular season games dating back to 2011 and is tied for the sixth-longest active streak in the nation. USU has also won four-straight home games going back to last season, which is its longest streak since 1990.
Utah State travels to Wisconsin this week to play the Badgers Saturday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on the Big Ten Network (Dish Ch. 439; DirecTV Ch. 610; Comcast HD Ch. 754). Wisconsin is 1-1 on the season following a 26-21 home win against Northern Iowa and a 10-7 loss at Oregon State.
