Meagan Nelson Named WGC Gymnast of the Week

Utah State freshman gymnast Meagan Nelson was named the Western Gymnastics Conference's Gymnast of the Week Monday.


Nelson became the first freshman in Utah State history to break 39.000 in an all-around debut, as she scored 39.125 in USU's season opener Sunday at Cal State Fullerton. The Aggies faced CSF and Illinois-Chicago, and finished second (192.050) to Cal State Fullerton (193.875). UIC was third with 191.700.

Nelson won the all-around competition. She also tied for first on the floor exercise (9.875) and led USU on the beam (9.750).

Utah State gymnastics travels to Oklahoma to take on the Sooners and Boise State Sunday, Jan. 19 in a 1 p.m. MST meet.

The Western Gymnastics Conference consists of Boise State, Cal State Fullerton, Southern Utah and Utah State and was formed in 2002.
