Track and Field
Utah State track and field heads to Pullman, Wash., to compete in the Cougar Indoor Track and Field Meet, hosted by Washington State, beginning Friday, Jan. 25, and concluding Saturday, Jan. 26.

"This meet is always a good meet for us to gage where we are because it's really good competition," said USU head coach Greg Gensel. "We get to compete against our conference opponent Idaho, and we'll get to see what kind of competition we will have at conference meets later this year."

Teams competing at the meet will be Idaho, Washington State, USC (women) and Eastern Washington.
The two-day meet is scheduled to begin Friday at 3:30 p.m. (MT) with the women's 60 H (Pentathlon) race. Events will conclude for the day at 8 p.m. (MT) with the women's long jump. The meet continues Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. (MT) with the men's 60 H (Heptathlon) and will conclude at 4 p.m. (MT) with the men and women's 1600m relay.

Gensel is excited for the entire Aggie team to compete together for the first time this season. The Aggies have already competed in two meets this year, one at home and one at Idaho State, but only half the team competed in each meet.

"It's really the first time our entire team is going to be together," Gensel said. "This meet will be a good test for the entire team."

Many Aggies performed well at home last weekend (Jan. 18-19) in the Wilson Motor Invitational. Freshman Sonia Grabowska set a personal best in the pole vault with a height of 12-00.00 (3.66m). Junior Krista Larson also recorded a personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 55-00.75 (16.78m). On the men's side, Silas Pimentel recorded a personal best in the 60m with a time of 6.95.

Gensel expects big things from senior distance runners Stacie Dorius, who placed first in the mile (5:13.70) at last week's invitational, and Amy Egan, who also placed first in the 800m race.

On the men's side, Gensel expects exceptional performances from distance runners junior Seth Wold and freshman Chio Lopez. Junior Nick Karren, who was named this week's WAC Track Athlete of the Week, is also expected to do well after placing first last week in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.23 as well as winning the 400 meters on Friday with a 49.50.

Next up, the Aggies will head to Colorado Springs, Colo., to compete in the Air Force Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3.
