Miss Native American USU Cynthia Tsosie Receives 2026 Utah Changemaker Award

LOGAN, Utah — Miss Native American USU Cynthia Tsosie has won the 2026 Changemaker Award, presented by the Utah Division of Indian Affairs.

The Changemaker Award recognizes six Indigenous youth from across Utah who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, community service, cultural advocacy and a commitment to preserving and promoting Native cultures. Recipients are nominated by members of their communities and selected through a competitive review process as part of the Utah Native American Summit's Indigenous Youth Leadership Program.

Tsosie was chosen for her dedication to serving others, representing Native communities, and advocating for Indigenous students and cultures both at Utah State University and throughout the state.

“Being Miss Native American Utah State University and winning this award, it makes me think back to what I have accomplished during my title,” Tsosie said. “Where I was talking to Shoshone Council Members, talking to the Paiute, meeting President Brad Mortensen, so many things that I have gotten done with this title, it makes me think what else can I do.”

Tsosie will be formally recognized alongside the other five Changemaker Award recipients during the Utah Native American Summit on July 31 at Utah Valley University.

The Utah Native American Summit brings together Tribal leaders, educators, community members and organizations to celebrate Indigenous leadership, strengthen partnerships and support Native communities throughout Utah.
