Parking and Traffic Impacts Expected with Funeral Services on Logan Campus

LOGAN, Utah - The funeral services for two Tremonton-Garland police officers who were shot and killed in the line of duty will take place this week at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 28 for officer Eric Estrada, and Friday, Aug. 29 for Sgt. Lee Sorensen. Both services begin at 10 a.m. and are open to the public.

“I want to thank our campus for their patience with any disruptions later this week as we all work to support our local community during this very difficult time,” USU Interim President Alan L. Smith said.

The services will occur during normal university hours and will affect parking and traffic on both days. A large law enforcement presence will also be seen across campus on Thursday and Friday, and thousands of attendees are expected.

To accommodate this large number of attendees, USU has designated the parking lots near the Spectrum for funeral parking. Parking pass holders are asked to avoid parking in those lots on both mornings. Affected parking lots are expected to reopen at 1 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday. Any students, faculty or staff with questions or concerns should contact USU parking at 435-797-3414.

Impacts:

  • Parking in the Yellow Terraced Lot (Aggie Bull area) and the Maverik Stadium West Lot will be reserved for funeral attendees until approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
  • Green permit holders should avoid parking in the areas near the Spectrum and Green lot west of the Heat Plant but may park in other faculty lots during this time.
  • Yellow permit holders should avoid parking in the Yellow Terrace lots (by the Aggie Bull) and the West Stadium Yellow lot. Parking is available in the gravel lot on 1200 East.
  • Utah State Ticket Office will be closed in the morning and will be open from 1-4:30 p.m. each day. If you have any ticket questions, please call a member of the USU ticket sales and service team or the main ticket office number at 1-888-USTATE-1. Single-game football tickets for USU’s season opener against UTEP on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 5:30 p.m., can be purchased through UtahStateAggies.com/Tickets.

What to Do:

  • Avoid the Spectrum area if possible.
  • Plan extra travel time and use alternate routes/lots.
  • Follow signage and officer directions.
  • Check USU parking maps to plan alternate parking.
