Peterson Named Athlete of the Week

Volleyball senior Kindy Peterson was named Utah State Athlete of the Week Monday [Sept. 20]. Peterson recorded 29 kills and 25 digs in two games this week. The weekly award is voted on by a state media panel.
Peterson, a senior outside hitter from Lyman, Wyo., recorded a season-high 19 kills along with 14 digs in a four-game loss to Cal State Northridge on Thursday, Sept. 16. She hit .463 in the match with no attack errors. In Saturday's loss to Pacific she had 10 kills and 11 digs in five games.
For the weekend, Peterson averaged 3.22 kills and 2.78 digs a game. Peterson is second in both kills and digs for Utah State this season with 86 and 71 respectively. She also has the highest hitting percentage for both a three and four-game series at .435 and .463 respectively.
Peterson is the only senior on this team. She played at both Northwest College in Powell, Wyo.; and New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, N.M. She earned all-region honors as both a freshman and sophomore and all-conference honors as a junior.
Utah State, which is 1-6, will play matches at Idaho on Thursday, Sept. 23, and at UC Davis on Saturday, Sept. 25.

Football — Andre Bala. The junior made his first collegiate start in place of the injured Terrance Washington at free safety and responded with a game-high and career-high 10 tackles in Utah State's 48-6 loss to Utah. He had six unassisted tackles in the game. Bala had a combined eight tackles in the first two games before Utah.
Men's Tennis — Hannes Schenk. Went the deepest into the tournament of any Aggie at the season-opening BYU Invitational. Schenk won two matches to advance to the quarterfinals where he lost to the eventual runner-up 6-2, 6-3.
Soccer — No nominee.
