Pres. Mortensen: Town Hall in December Will Share Info on Strategic Reinvestment

Editor's note: This message from President Brad L. Mortensen was sent to all Utah State University employees on Nov. 17.

Dear Aggie Community,

I’m writing to share an update on our HB 265 strategic reinvestment planning efforts. As you know, USU’s plan has not yet received approval. My top priority is to receive approval and ensure that the funds withheld from our budget are restored.

Our objective is to get approval before the 2026 General Session begins in January, which will allow us to move forward and focus on other priorities. At this time, we are aiming to present a revised plan at the December 9, 2025, meeting of the Executive Appropriations Committee (EAC). We will also seek review by the Utah Board of Higher Education prior to the EAC meeting.

Over the next few weeks, we will be working with executive leaders and deans to refine the plan. Your perspectives remain essential to this work, and we are actively reviewing your feedback. Updates on the plan will be shared with Faculty Senate, Staff Employee Association, and USU Student Association representatives as we finalize the revisions.

We will hold a Faculty and Staff Town Hall on December 8 at 1:00 p.m. to walk through the updated proposal and share highlights from our recent university-wide survey. If you have not yet responded, I encourage you to take a few minutes to share your thoughts on how things are going at USU. Your feedback helps guide our next steps.

Thank you for all you do for our students, our research mission, the statewide communities we serve, and for Utah State. Go Aggies!

Best,
brad
