Six Aggie Gymnasts Earn Academic All-America Honors

LOGAN, Utah — Meagan Lewis and Rachael Mandy led a contingent of six Utah State gymnasts who earned Academic All-America honors from the NACGC this month.
 
As a team the Aggies posted the 19th-best team grade point average in the country with a 3.3669 mark.
 
Lewis, a junior from Las Vegas, Nev. and Mandy, a junior from Fargo, N.D., both posted 3.93 grade-point averages in elementary education and human resource management respectively last year. Other Aggies earning All-America honors include Liesel Kohler (3.83 in animal science), Sarah Johnson (3.68 in biology), Ashley Barr (3.67 in political science), and Jessica Parenti (3.59 in exercise science).
 
Lewis and Parenti, a senior from Glendora, Calif., both competed as individuals in the all-around at last year's NCAA Regionals. Parenti placed 14th while Lewis was 15th.
 
Mandy, a junior from Fargo, N.D., was selected as an alternate for the regional meet on the vault after tying for ninth at the WAC Championships. Johnson, a freshman from Arlington, Texas, competed on the beam all season and had a season-best 9.8 vs. Washington.
 
Kohler, a senior from La Selva Beach, Calif. capped her career by tying for 13th on the floor at the WAC Championships. She had a season-best 9.85 on the floor. Barr, a senior from Littleton, Colo., missed the season after tearing her ACL.
