Slippery Slopes
February’s deadly mudslide in the central Philippines was triggered by two weeks of heavy rain. USU researchers are developing tools to predict and prevent precipitation-induced landslides, as well as collapses caused by snow melt and earthquakes. Landslides are a heightened concern in Utah, as the state’s population grows and development increases.
