Trever Ball Earns Cross Country All-America Honors

Trever Ball became the first Utah State men's runner in history to be named an All-American by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association it was announced this week.
The senior from Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum, Utah, capped a great career with the national recognition.

By placing among the top 30 United States citizens at the NCAA Championships, a runner can earn All-America honors. Ball, who was 47th overall, placed 29th among Americans at the national meet.
"The credit goes to Trever," said USU head coach Gregg Gensel. "He made a huge commitment last year to do what it takes to become an All American and he has accomplished that. Along the way he did a lot of things."

Among those things were winning the Western Athletic Conference individual title and earning league Cross Country Athlete of the Year honors this season. In 2004 he won the Big West individual title and that league's cross country Athlete of the Year award as well.

"I think him making All-America is prophetic on his part," said USU distance coach Steve Reeder. "As we communicated through the summer, he told me through an e-mail that he was planning on becoming an All-American and I had no reason to believe he couldn't do it. Since he has been healthy he has really done a great job."

His 2005 season included claiming four WAC Athlete of the Week awards as he won two races and finished in the top 20 in all six events before the NCAA Championships. He finished 12th at the NCAA Mountain Regional to qualify for the NCAA's as an individual. Earlier in the year he won the Montana State Invitational and the WAC Championship.
