Utah State Soccer Earns NSCAA College Team Academic Award
Head coach Heather Cairnsand the Utah State [University] soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches of America/adidas Team Academic Award after posting a 3.32 grade point average. This is the eighth-straight year that the Aggies have been honored with the NSCAA award.
USU is one of five Western Athletic Conference squads to be recognized, along with Boise State, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State and San Jose State. USU's 3.32 GPA was second in the WAC behind New Mexico State's 3.33. The Aggies, Utah and BYU are the only schools from the Beehive state to be honored. Cairns' squads have earned the NSCAA Team Award every season that she has been at Utah State.
A total of 630 soccer teams (194 men, 436 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year. More than 100 more women's soccer teams were honored this season. There were 125 schools that had both their men's and women's teams honored which was up from 97 last season.
The Aggies also just concluded a very successful season on the field. Utah State ended the season with a 9-7-5 record, advancing to the WAC Tournament semifinal match. With a 5-2-1 record, USU was Co-WAC regular-season champions with San Jose State.
