USU and CEU Celebrate their Historic Partnership

Utah State University and the College of Eastern Utah celebrate their unique partnership with a ceremonial bill signing May 1 in Price and celebratory events in Blanding April 29 and in Price April 30.

Gov. Gary R. Herbert will attend the ceremonial bill signing at CEU Saturday, May 1, at 9 a.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center Alumni Room. Following the signing, CEU will celebrate its 72nd commencement ceremony, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center. Gov. Herbert will be the commencement speaker.

“We are excited for the events this weekend and for the opportunity to meet with administrators, trustees and community members from both schools as we move forward with this union that promises a brighter future for our students,” said CEU Interim President Mike King. “We are especially excited that Gov. Herbert is taking time to participate in this historic event.”

Friday evening, USU and CEU will celebrate their new partnership in Price in the Multipurpose Room of the student center. Events begin at 6:30 p.m. and include student musical performances, dinner, speakers and the unveiling of a new Aggie Ice Cream flavor — Aggie Gold — in honor of the merger. The flavor reflects the school colors of both USU and CEU. Commissioner of Higher Education William A. Sederburg will speak, along with state Rep. Patrick Painter and state Sen. David Hinkins, who sponsored Senate Bill 69, which united USU and CEU. USU President Stan L. Albrecht and CEU Interim President Mike King will also speak.

A celebratory event will also take place at CEU’s San Juan campus in Blanding, Thursday, April 29. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Technology Building and includes the naming of the Bradford/Lee Technology Building.

“This is a time to celebrate as we begin our journey as Utah State University-College of Eastern Utah,” Albrecht said. “This opportunity allows USU and its new partners in Price and Blanding to provide enhanced educational and economic development opportunities to the communities and citizens of eastern and southeastern Utah.”
