LOGAN, UT – The USU Bass Festival invites the public to attend its free closing concert featuring the USU Bass Ensemble, the festival bass choir, and guest artist Jacob Warren. The concert will take place April 19 at 4 p.m. in the Chase Fine Art Center’s Daines Concert Hall.
This annual USU Bass Festival event brings together bassists of all ages and skill levels for a day of masterclasses, workshops, and performances.
“This is a fun way to bring in bass soloists and get the bass community together within the region,” said professor and festival organizer Braun Khan. “It gives students a chance to see some of the things that the instrument can do and connect with the bigger bass world.”
This year’s Bass Festival and closing concert will feature Jacob Warren, showcasing his diverse musical talents and collaborations. Warren, a multi-style double bassist, composer, and educator, was awarded first prize in the 2023 International Society of Bassists Soloist Competition, and has toured extensively with various ensembles.
“He plays music that is kind of a mixture of styles,” said Khan. “He comes from a pretty strong classical background, but a lot of the stuff that he plays is more in the Americana bluegrass vein. And he also experiments a lot with different tunings on the bass, finding ways of playing the instrument that are really innovative.”
The closing concert offers a chance for the public to experience the culmination of the hard work and collaboration of the bass festival.
“We end the concert with a performance by all of the bassists who were part of the all-day event,” said Khan. “We play in a bass choir. It's about 50 of us basses that will play together. It’s pretty fun.”
The one-night-only event that celebrates the talent and creativity of bassists from all over the region is free and open to the public with no ticket required. For more information, visit online.
