USU Community Invited to Participate in 2nd Annual USHE Expression Survey

Utah State University students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in the second annual Utah System of Higher Education Expression Survey, opening Monday.

Administered by USHE in partnership with Hanover Research, the survey is designed to better understand how members of the university community experience campus life and higher education in Utah, including perceptions of campus expression, freedom of speech and academic freedom. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

Now in its second year, the survey is part of an ongoing campus expression climate survey required under H.B. 261: Equal Opportunity Initiatives to track student, faculty and staff perceptions of free speech and academic freedom at Utah's public institutions. The survey is on a three-year cycle, and the Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel will report in November 2027 on the data collected from the surveys in 2025, 2026 and 2027. Participating this year adds to a growing body of data that will inform decisions at both the university and state level.

Participants will receive a personal email invitation on April 6 from Hanover Research (surveys@qemailserver.com) with the subject line "Share your thoughts with USHE."

As a token of appreciation, the first 75 students who complete the survey will receive a $10 gift card to a store of their choice. Students who aren't among the first 75 will still have a chance to win one of five $50 gift cards through a raffle at the end of the survey.

Hanover Research will maintain the confidentiality of all respondents as an objective third party, reporting results only in aggregate to university leadership so that individual responses remain anonymous.

The survey closes April 26. Employees who do not receive an invitation by April 8 should check their spam folder or contact jottwein@hanoverresearch.com for assistance.
