USU Gymnastics Signs Joanna Cuba

Utah State [University] gymnastics head coach Jeff Richards has announced that Joanna Cuba has signed with USU to compete for the Aggies in the 2012-13 school year.

Cuba, a native of Georgetown, Texas, has signed a letter of intent with USU and will be in Logan in the fall of 2012.

“We’re excited to add Joanna to our 2012 signing class,” Richards said. “She is solid in all four events and will provide significant help in replacing our departed seniors Rebecca Holliday and Haley Hogan in the lineup. Along with our previous three signings, we will have a lot of depth and talent in all four events.”

Competing for Acrotex Gymnastics in Georgetown under coach Daire O'Ceallag, Cuba earned fourth on bars and was ninth in the all-around at the 2012 Level 10 Regionals. At the 2012 Rose City Classic meet, Cuba was second in the all-around as well as second on vault, bars and floor. She earned four first-place finishes, including one with a 9.700 on beam. At the Level 9 Western Championships, Cuba was fifth in the all-around, including fourth on bars, after winning bars and placing second on floor and in the all-around at the Level 9 Regionals.

The daughter of Mark Cuba, she is a senior at Georgetown High School.

Cuba joins three other gymnasts who signed with the Aggies in December, joining McKenzey Martinez from Kimberly, Idaho, Michelle Yasukochi from Carlsbad, Calif., and Hayley Sanzotti from Wheaton, Ill.
