LOGAN — Utah State University Libraries’ Special Collections & Archives is marking Utah Archives Month this October by spotlighting digital collections tied to this year’s theme, “Home in the Archives.”
Utah Archives Month is part of American Archives Month. For this year’s theme, the Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board invited cultural heritage organizations and individuals across the state to share photographs, letters, postcards, scrapbooks, and other documents that show what “home” means to them.
USU Libraries is answering that call with two collections. The Cache County Tax Assessment Collection holds approximately 3,400 photographs of residences and businesses in Cache County, Utah, taken between the 1930s and the 1960s. The photographs were taken by the county for record-keeping purposes and were stapled or taped to tax assessment cards.
The A-Board Historical Photograph Collection includes about 8,800 images mounted on archival boards. Many show Logan and Cache Valley, along with Idaho and Wyoming. The collection also documents railroads, the Western cattle industry, wagon freighting and Mormon historical sites.
Both collections are available online through USU Libraries Special Collections & Archives at libraryusu.access.preservica.com.
