USU Libraries to Present Arrington Mormon History Lecture Featuring Benjamin E. Park

LOGAN — Historian Benjamin E. Park will present his lecture “Declarations of Independence: Why the Latter-day Saints Just Can’t Quit the United States” at this year’s Arrington Mormon History Lecture on Sept. 24.

Park’s presentation will trace the long and evolving relationships between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the United States, focusing on key moments when patriotism, allegiance and citizenship took on heightened significance within the Mormon tradition.

Park is an award-winning historian. He has a master’s degree in theology from the University of Edinburgh’s School of Divinity and a doctorate in history from the University of Cambridge. He currently teaches history at Sam Houston State University and serves as president of the Mormon History Association.

He is the author or editor of five books and winner of the American Society of Church History’s Philip Schaff Prize for the Best Book in the History of Christianity. His YouTube and social media channels have over 30,000 subscribers and several million views.

The Arrington Mormon History Lecture will be 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Logan Tabernacle, 50 N. Main St., Logan, Utah. The event is free and open to the public.
