USU Statewide Campuses to Host Paying for College Events

By Marcus Jensen |

Utah State University Statewide Campuses will be hosting several Paying for College Events at various USU campuses around the state beginning Oct. 19. All prospective students and their families are welcome to attend at the campus that best fits their schedule and location.

Paying for College Events are designed to help students and their families better understand the financial side of attending college and connect them directly with people who can help.

The goal is to make paying for college feel more understandable and manageable by bringing admissions and financial support resources together in one place. These events provide an opportunity to ask questions, learn about available resources, and get hands-on assistance early in the college planning process.

“I’ve worked with students and families for many years, and I know that figuring out how to pay for college can feel overwhelming,” said Vanessa Liesik, director of Statewide Recruitment and Engagement. “Often, the hardest part is simply knowing where to start. That’s what I love about these Paying for College events. We’re bringing people and resources together in our local communities so families can ask questions, understand their options, and leave feeling like they have a plan. Students and families don’t have to figure this out on their own.”

During the events, prospective students and families can meet with officials to explore local scholarships and federal aid. They can also get help with the application process and learn about the resources USU Statewide Campuses have to offer to support student success.

Representatives from Student Financial Support and Admissions will be available to answer questions and help students understand their next steps. These representatives can also help with completing FAFSA and explore budgeting and financial planning resources.

“Understanding how to pay for college can feel overwhelming, but students and families do not have to navigate it alone,” said Craig Whyte, executive director of Student Financial Support. “Our goal is to help students understand the resources available to them, how to access those resources, and what steps they can take to make college more affordable. These events are an opportunity to ask questions, get personalized guidance, and build confidence in the path ahead. We encourage students and families to come visit with us and take advantage of the support available.

While these events are especially helpful for high school students and their families, anyone considering attending USU who has questions about paying for college is encouraged to participate. Students who would like FAFSA assistance are encouraged to create their FSA ID in advance and bring the information they need to work on the FAFSA.
