USU to Conduct Emergency Alert Exercises on Blanding and Price Campuses

Utah State University’s Department of Public Safety will conduct emergency preparedness exercises at the Blanding and Price campuses next week. These short exercises are designed to test USU’s Aggie Alert system and building secure procedures.

The Blanding Campus exercise will take place at 10 a.m. May 14. The Price Campus exercise will be at 1:30 p.m. May 15. Each is expected to last approximately 10 minutes.

During the test, students and employees who work or study on campus will receive Aggie Alert by text and email. Text alerts will come from the number 89361. At the same time, campus buildings with keycard access — excluding the residence halls in Price — will be temporarily locked.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to plan ahead to minimize any disruptions.

USU’s Emergency Management team notes that as the university continues to grow and prepare for large-scale events, systems like Aggie Alert are a critical component of campus safety.

All messages will clearly indicate that this is only a test. The exercise will conclude with an “all clear” message. Questions or feedback following the exercise can be sent to emergencymanagement@usu.edu.
