USU to Hold Third Annual Women's Auction Nov. 3

The Utah State University Athletic Department is holding the Third Annual Women's Sports Auction at this year's "Get in the Game" luncheon. The event is based on the popular Big Blue Aggie Auction with a little twist...it's for women only. All women are invited to attend to support women athlete scholarships at USU.

 

"It is a women supporting women event," says Becky Spetman, luncheon organizer.

 

Of course there are a few men who attend. Along with Becky's husband, Randy, director of Athletics at Utah State, several of the male coaches for the female sports will be in attendance.

 

"We'll also have some of the female athletes in attendance so the ladies can meet them, get to know them, and see how their support affects the athletes," Becky explains.

 

She and her committee of ten ladies are working hard to obtain some fun and unusual items for this year's auction. Auction items include things women would enjoy, like spa pampering packages, trips, scrap booking parties, art and great foods. But items for husbands and kids are also there as gift ideas for the ladies. The chance to have Big Blue attend a private event, the opportunity for a child to be an official Aggie Cheerleader at an upcoming women's basketball game, or the chance to attend a future Aggie summer sports camp are all offered at the auction. And Nike has supported the event the last two years with a signed Mia Hamm jersey and a signed Maria Sharapova tennis dress, so interest to see what Nike might provide this year is high.

 

Donations from community businesses are essential to the event's success.

 

"I appreciate all the Cache Valley and Salt Lake City businesses who donate to this great event,” Becky said. “We couldn't help these female athletes without them. Many of our athletes would not be attending college without athletic scholarships. It is a chance for them to succeed at life along with athletics."

 

This year's event will be held at the Coppermill Restaurant Nov. 3, at 11a.m. Silent auction items may be viewed and bid upon from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m., with a soup, salad and sandwich lunch following. During dessert a live auction will proceed. Anyone who would like to attend needs to make a reservation by Oct. 25, by calling Kristin at 797-1850.
