Utah State University is inviting the public to a discussion on its new Threat Assessment Management Team.
"The Threat Assessment Management Team will actively collaborate with the campus community to support the recognition of and response to concerning or threatening behaviors," said Jason Brei, chief of the USU Police Department.
Brei will facilitate the discussion from 2-3:30 p.m. Sept. 4 in the David B. Haight Center, 555 N. Champ Ave., Logan.
Also joining the forum will be Gene Deisinger Consulting Associate Jeffrey Cugno.
USU recently completed policy guidelines for the team and identified core community members to serve as team members.
The Threat Assessment Management Team will work with the campus community to identify, assess and manage situations involving individuals whose behaviors or actions may present a threat, according to Brei. This may include, as appropriate, working with law enforcement, mental health services, human resources and other support services to facilitate effective assessment and intervention.
Team members will conduct comprehensive, fact-based assessments of circumstances involving individuals who are engaging in concerning or threatening behavior that may pose a threat of violence to themselves or members of the university community.
The team develops case management plans based on a thorough and diligent review of information obtained via sources that are reasonably available, and to which team members have lawful and ethical access.
