USU to Mark Sept. 11 With Day of Service, Memorial Stair Climb

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. To honor the spirit of sacrifice made that day and the sacrifices that continue to be made by members of the armed forces and their families, Utah State University is inviting its students, faculty, and staff across the state to participate in the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Those interested in giving back can find local or virtual service opportunities and log the university's collective impact through USU's GivePulse page.

Departments with a service project to host can contact Nelda Ault-Dyslin, assistant director of community-engaged learning, to have it added to GivePulse.

In support of this year's anniversary of the attacks, USU will permit employees to use regular work time for volunteer service projects on Sept. 11, subject to advanced supervisory approval.

For those not scheduled to work on Sept. 11, employees are still encouraged to volunteer, but it will be on their own time because employees may not defer any paid service time for this event to another day.

Memorial Stair Climb

In the evening, the USU Department of Public Safety will host the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Maverik Stadium in honor of the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. Participants will climb in remembrance of those who were lost and in tribute to the courage, service, and sacrifice of first responders who climbed to save others.

The stair climb is presented in collaboration with the USU Veterans Resource Office and the Logan City Fire Department. Registration opens at 5 p.m., and the climb begins at 6 p.m.
