USU Volleyball's Alyssa Everett Attending NCAA 'Career in Sports’ Forum

Utah State University volleyball student athlete Alyssa Everett has been selected to attend the 2012 NCAA National Career in Sports Forum, June 7-10, in Indianapolis, Ind. More than 650 student athletes completed the application, and 300 were selected to participate in the program.

Everett, a senior middle blocker from Perry, Utah, majors in physical education teaching at USU and was accepted for the volleyball coaching track at the forum. She earned academic all-Western Athletic Conference honors as well as the USU Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete award in 2011. On the court, she totalled 80 blocks in 23 matches, averaging 1.27 blocks per set.

The NCAA National Career in Sports Forum is an educational forum where selected student athletes learn and explore careers in sports, sports law and sports entertainment, with a primary focus on intercollegiate athletics.

The Forum provides student athletes with the opportunity to learn more about careers in sports, particularly in intercollegiate athletics. Participants examine the key functions of coaches and administrators within college sports, with an emphasis on communication, networking, recruiting, managing culture, transitioning and budgeting. The forum is meant to help student athletes consider how their personal values intersect with opportunities in sports, teaching them how behavioral styles impact effectiveness.

During the forum each student athlete will develop a plan for growth and career development while taking advantage of networking opportunities.

Everett is the only student athlete from the WAC attending the forum and is one of six student athletes from the state of Utah, joining four from Utah Valley University and one from the University of Utah.

According to the USU Athletics program, this is the seventh year in a row that Utah State is represented by at least one student-athlete at the forum. It is the second time in three years the student representative if from the volleyball team.
