USU VRO Teams With USA Project Valor to Provide Veterans Housing in Cache Valley

HYDE PARK, Utah — In an effort to support student-Veterans transitioning from military to academic life, Utah State University’s Veterans Resource Office is teaming up with Cache Valley entrepreneur Nathan Ruben and USA Project Valor to pursue opening a dedicated student-Veteran housing complex in Hyde Park, beginning August 2025.

This innovative project is designed to foster connection and community among student-Veterans who are navigating the challenges of civilian and academic life. The complex will include housing specifically for student-Veterans, with one room reserved for short-term use by homeless student-Veterans — a growing concern in the region. Since 2022, USU has identified at least three student-Veterans experiencing homelessness.

“Loneliness is a real contributor to failure for Veterans,” said Andy Allen, executive director of the USU VRO. “They eat, sleep, train and work as teams in the military 24/7 for years. Then one day, in the blink of an eye, they find themselves alone. At the VRO, we are determined to help student-Veterans thrive again by finding camaraderie with fellow Veterans in a student-Veteran housing complex.”

To further support this mission, the USU VRO has also teamed up with USA Project Valor and the City of Nibley to host “Run For a Cause!” — a 5K race/walk/ride event on Oct. 11. Proceeds will directly benefit homeless student-Veterans in Cache Valley.
