USU's Turbin Tabbed Honorable Mention National Running Back of Week
Utah State [University] football player Robert Turbin was recognized by collegefootballperformance.com as honorable mention Running Back of the Week.
Turbin, a junior from Fremont, Calif. (Irvington HS), rushed for 123 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown burst on the first offensive play of the game, in USU's 27-24 loss at BYU Friday night [Sept. 30]. He added two catches for 22-yards on the night, including a 24-yard TD reception. Turbin now has at least two TDs in all four of USU's games this season, and has at least one rushing TD in last nine games played. Friday was Turbin's third-straight 100-yard game and 11th of his career, one of 14 active players in FBS with at least 10 career 100-yard games.
Turbin's 80-yard first-quarter TD was his fourth-career TD run over 50+ yards and the second-longest of his career behind the 96-yarder at Utah in 2009. Turbin now has 30 career rushing TD's, taking over sole possession of the No. 3 spot on USU's Career Rushing list, breaking a tie with Tom Larscheid (1959-61) and are the most by an Aggie since Demario Brown (1996-99) had 37. Turbin also passed Lascheid's 2,206 career rushing yards, and now has 2,285 with his 123 yards Friday.
This is the third national honorable mention award by collegefootballperformance.com for Turbin this season, also earning it after the Weber State and Colorado State games.
Turbin and the Aggies return home to host Wyoming Saturday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. at Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium.
