Utah State Announces 2005 Gymnastics Schedule

Sept. 28, 2004

Utah State's gymnastics head coach Ray Corn has announced the Aggies' 2005 schedule. Home meets with in-state rivals Utah, Brigham Young and Southern Utah higlight Utah State's 28th season competing in Division 1 gymnastics, as well as the 28th season with Corn at the helm.

The Aggies open the season against Utah on Jan. 14 in Logan. Utah State will begin the season at home for only the second time since 1999 and for the first time since 2002.

Utah State will also host and travel to in-state rivals BYU and SUU. Boise State will also participate in a home-and-home series with the Aggies.

"We are excited to be hosting our traditional in-state rivals," said Corn. "Especially starting off the season against Utah. I'm very pleased with this year's home schedule.

Utah State will split its 12 season meets with six at home and six on the road. Once again Utah State will host most of its home meets toward the end of the season with three of the meets in a one week period in March.

"I'm looking forward to this year and feel we have improved over last year's squad," continued Corn. "Last year we only had 10 on our roster and this year we have 14 to add to our depth. The eight from last year and our six freshmen should make us competitive."

Utah State returns four gymnasts who qualified for regionals as well as one regional alternate. Liesel Kohler led the way for the Aggies at the 2004 regionals finishing eighth on the floor with a 9.825. Also competing were Rachel Mandy, Alex Martin and Rachel Ropeleto while Ashley Barr was the alternate. Corn also expects redshirt sophomores Jessica Parenti and Meagan Nelson to bounce back from injuries and be in the lineup this year. Nelson was an all-Western Gymnastics Conference team member in 2003, while Parenti was a second team honoree.

Utah State finished the 2004 season ranked 34th nationally according to RQS and finished eighth in the North Central Region.
