Utah State Athletics Graduation Success Rate at 88%
LOGAN, Utah — Utah State's Graduation Success Rate stands at 88 percent for its student-athletes, it was announced by the NCAA national office Wednesday.
Overall, this is USU’s 10th consecutive year at 88 percent or higher.
The latest GSR report is based upon student-athlete cohorts from 2015-18 and reflect the percentage of student-athletes earning a degree within six years. The NCAA developed the GSR to account for transfer student-athletes, mid-year enrollees and others not tracked by the Federal Graduation Rates. The GSR subtracts student-athletes who depart for allowable exclusions (such as an official church mission), as well as those who transfer but would have been academically eligible to compete had they returned to the institution.
“The latest Graduation Success Rate shows the strength of our academic culture and the determination of our student-athletes in everything they do and demonstrates that being successful in competition and in the classroom are not mutually exclusive,” said Utah State Vice President and Director of Athletics Cameron Walker. “I’m incredibly proud of our student-athletes, coaches, and academic support staff for continually upholding this standard of excellence.”
Graduation Success Rate Notes
- Utah State achieved a perfect (100%) GSR score in six sports: golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball.
- Utah State’s golf and soccer programs have now had a perfect GSR for nine consecutive years, while USU’s women’s tennis and volleyball programs have hit that mark in each of the last eight and five years, respectively.
- Seven of Utah State’s teams improved or matched their GSR from the previous year.
- Other programs to excel within the framework include women’s cross country/track & field (92), women’s basketball (87), football (85), and men’s cross country/track & field (80).
Along with the continued academic success of its student-athletes, Utah State continues to excel athletically. Thus far this fall, USU’s soccer program won its third straight Mountain West Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in program history, while its volleyball team has already clinched its third MW Regular Season Championship in the last five seasons.
