Utah State Finishes Sixth In WAC Commissioner's Cup

Utah State University finished sixth in the Western Athletic Conference Commissioner's Cup standings it was announced by the league office Wednesday, May 28.

Fresno State won the title with 89.25 points, followed by Boise State (86.00), Hawai'i (78.25), Nevada (75.00), New Mexico State (68.75), Utah State (64.75), Idaho (58.75), San Jose State (50.75) and Louisiana Tech (45.50).

 

The WAC awards its Commissioner's Cup to the school that performs the best in each of the conference's 19 men and women's championships. Points are awarded for first-place, second-place, etc., in every sport. Points are dependent on the number of participating teams in each sport, and those points are then averaged between a team's regular season finish (if applicable) and its WAC championship finish. Ties are not broken, but instead are averaged between the tied teams. Affiliate members are not eligible for the Commissioner's Cup, but their standings are used for determining points.

 

Highlighting Utah State's 2007-08 academic year were its track and basketball programs as USU won WAC titles in men's cross country, men's indoor track and field, and men's basketball. The Aggie men also finished second during the outdoor track and field season, while USU's volleyball and women's cross country teams finished third.

 

In its inaugural season in the WAC, Utah State finished in fourth-place in the Commissioner's Cup standings, followed by a fifth-place finish in 2007.
