Utah State Gymnastics at BYU Quad Meet Friday

ON TAP — ­Utah State [University] (0-6, 0-3 WAC) gymnastics will compete in its first multi-team meet of the season on Friday, Feb. 20, when the Aggies participate in a quad meet hosted by BYU (2-8), where they'll face Western Athletic Conference foes Boise State (9-3, 3-0 WAC) and San Jose State (7-1, 3-1 WAC). The quad meet will start at 7 p.m. at BYU's Marriott Center (22,700). This is USU's first action in 11 days after a match-up with No. 1 Utah on Feb. 9.

SMART-ALLEN RETURNING TO ALMA MATER — Friday marks USU assistant coach and BYU alum Dayna Smart-Allen's first return to her alma mater as a member of the Aggie staff. Smart-Allen was a two-year team captain for the Cougars, winning seven individual titles last season, including three on beam and two each on vault and floor and she qualified for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, where she tied for 10th on beam (9.825) and placed 14th on vault (9.750), helping BYU to a fifth-place finish.

 

IN THE RANKINGS - RQS DEBUT — The Troester/GymInfo Women's Gymnastics Rankings switch to Regional Qualifying Scores (RQS) this week, with Utah State debuting at No. 37 while San Jose State is No. 28. To obtain the regional qualifying score (RQS), the high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. There are several teams, including both Boise State and BYU, who have not had six meets yet this season so they do not have an RQS ranking and aren't in this week's rankings.

UP NEXT — Utah State continues multi-meets and action on the road, traveling to Sacramento, Calif., for a tri-meet hosted by Sacramento State with Boise State on Friday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. (MT) at Sac State's Hornets Nest, site of the 2009 WAC Championships on March 21. The Aggies return home to host Pittsburgh in a non-conference meet on Friday, March 6.
