Utah State Gymnastics Hosting 'Flip and Stick for a Cure' Meet Friday

Utah State University's gymnastics team invites fans, friends and family to help the fight against breast cancer when the Aggies host Cal State Fullerton in the annual "Flip and Stick for a Cure" meet Friday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. All fans wearing pink will receive free admission.

"My former fellow assistant coach at Iowa, Talya Vexler, was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was a senior at Georgia,” USU head coach Jeff Richards said. “After she was diagnosed and went through treatment, they held a meet in her honor to raise funds for her. That's what brought the gymnastics community into raising money and awareness about cancer. It's great to see who it goes toward in support. Some of us are affected directly and others of us know somebody. In today's world it's becoming more common, so it's great to see where that money and support goes and to see who we're helping."

For the special meet designed to raise awareness about breast cancer, the Aggies will trade their typical navy and white leotards for more suitable pink-themed uniforms.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink as a show of support for the brave individuals battling cancer. All fans wearing pink will receive free admission.

Utah State is 0-4 overall and 0-2 in Western Athletic Conference action, while Cal State Fullerton is 2-2 overall and 1-1 in WAC competition. Friday is the Aggies' first home meet since Jan. 16 and the first of a two-meet homestand as USU hosts No. 1-ranked Utah Monday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m.

Aggie gymnastics tickets are available through the USU Ticket Office at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, online at www.UtahStateAggies.com and clicking on "tickets" in left column, or by calling 1-888-U-STATE-1 or (435) 797-0305.
