Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 - 7 p.m. (MT)

WAC OPENER — In its home and Western Athletic Conference opener, Utah State [University] (1-4, 0-0 WAC) gymnastics will host No. 21 Boise State (2-0, 0-0 WAC) Friday, Jan. 29, at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum (10,270). The WAC duel between the Aggies and the two-time defending WAC champion Broncos is slated for a 7 p.m. start. Friday is the WAC opener for both teams, even though both have faced fellow WAC foes.

AUTOGRAPH NIGHT — The USU Gymnastics team will be signing autographs after the meet Friday, inking their signatures on the 2010 USU Gymnastics poster.

21 TWICE — Friday marks USU's second meet in a row vs. the No. 21 ranked team in the land, as BSU holds that spot in this week's Troester rankings. In their last meet, the Aggies faced then-21st-ranked Southern Utah, who jumped up to No. 18 this week. Utah State is No. 47 in this week's rankings, up two spots from last week.

THIS TIME IT COUNTS — The duel between USU and BSU will be both team's WAC openers and will count toward the WAC standings and the WAC regular-season champion. Both the Aggies and Broncos have faced fellow WAC foes already this season, in USU taking on Southern Utah last Friday and Boise State facing San Jose State and Sacramento State in its season-opening tri-meet, but neither counted toward the league standings.

HOME OPENERS — Utah State is 22-10 in its home opening meet all-time. USU has lost its first home meet the last five years in a row after winning the previous seven home-openers from 1998-2004. This is the second time in the last three years that Utah State has opened home action vs. a WAC foe, doing so in 2008 vs. Sacramento State.

BATTLING BRONCOS IN HOME OPENER — Friday marks the sixth time that the Aggies have faced Boise State in USU's home-opener and USU is 6-0 in those previous six meetings, last doing so in 2003, as well as in 2001, 2000, 1998, 1990 and 1984.

IN THE RANKINGS — Boise State is No. 21 in this week's Troester Women's Gymnastics rankings while Utah State is No. 47. The Broncos are also ranked fourth in the West region rankings, while the Aggies are eighth in the North Central region rankings.
