WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS ON TAP — For the first time since 2006, Utah State [University] gymnastics (5-12, 1-2 WAC) is hosting the Western Athletic Conference Gymnastics Championships. The five-team conference championship meet gets underway Saturday, March 24, at 6 p.m. (MT) at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum (10,270). Live results and live streaming links will be available through UtahStateAggies.com.
USU'S CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP HOSTING HISTORY — Saturday marks the first time since 2006, USU's first year in the conference, that the Aggies will host the WAC Championships. Overall, it will be the seventh time that Utah State has hosted its conference meet. USU previously hosted the WAC Championships in 2006, the Western Gymnastics Conference Championships in 2002, the Big West Conference Championships in 1992, 1996 and 2000, as well as the High Country Athletic Conference Championships in 1988.
FAB FIVE — After six teams competing in the previous six conference championships, there will only be five teams involved in Saturday's meet. Boise State departed for the Mountain West, which does not sponsor gymnastics, so the Broncos were independent this season, and Cal State Fullerton discontinued gymnastics. Those two teams were replaced by Denver, who joins the conference in all sports for the 2013 season.
