Utah State Men and Women's Track and Field Teams Earn All-Academic Honors

Utah State [University] men and women's track and field teams garnered U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2011 Division I all-academic Track and Field honors. The announcement was made Thursday, Aug. 11.

The USU women ended the school year with a 3.40 team grade-point average (GPA), while the men tallied a 3.12. A total of 90 men’s teams and 164 women’s teams earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better.

Joining the Aggies from the Western Athletic Conference with the accolades were Fresno State and Idaho for the men's side as well as Boise State, Fresno State, Hawai'i, Idaho, Nevada and New Mexico State for the women.

As announced earlier in August, 12 Aggie student-athletes received the individual award for the USTFCCCA all-academic team, including seniors Steven Atkinson, Philip Noble and Clint Silcock, along with juniors Daniel Howell and John Johnson, sophomores Eric Follett and Silas Pimentel and freshman Tanner Hunt. For the USU women, seniors Ashlee Cannon and Lindsey Spencer, along with junior Ruth Hilton and freshman Kylie Hirschi received the honors.

The Utah State men captured their third-straight WAC Outdoor title in 2011 along with their second-straight WAC Indoor title, while the women finished second in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. USU cross country will begin action at a home meet, the Utah State Open, Saturday Sept. 3, at the American West Heritage Center at 9 a.m.
