Utah State Soccer Signs Seventh Recruit

Feb. 16, 2006

LOGAN, Utah - Erin Salmon from Mountain View High School has signed a letter of intent to join the Utah State soccer program in the fall of 2006 it was announced on Thursday [Feb. 16] by Aggie head coach Heather Cairns.

Salmon played for the Utah Avalanche soccer club and joins three other teammates who signed with Utah State earlier this month in Sydne Porter from Davis High School, Lindsey Smart from Brighton High School and Jessica Williams from Box Elder High School. Last summer the Utah Avalanche soccer club team advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV Club Championships.

Salmon played as a forward for Mountain View and served as team captain her senior year. She was a first-team all-state selection by the Deseret Morning News and Salt Lake Tribune her freshman and sophomore years. Her freshman year she was also named the region 5 most valuable forward. Five games into her junior year she suffered a season-ending ACL tear after scoring 13 goals and recording three assists. In 2005 she returned to action and was named to the Deseret Morning News second-team all-state, as well as being named the outstanding forward for region 4 by the Deseret Morning News.

Over the course of her high school career, Salmon scored 100 goals and recorded 31 assists.
"I am excited to add Erin to our '06 recruiting class," said Cairns. "She is a dynamic attacking player who will play at the forward position for us. She is just as likely to score as she is to set up a teammate. She doesn't care who puts the ball in the back of the net or how the ball gets in the back of the net, she just works hard to make it happen. Her scoring potential will be a fantastic addition to our team."

The Aggies tied for second place in the Western Athletic Conference in 2005 posting a 7-9-4 overall record and a 4-2-1 league mark.
