Utah State University Gymnastics Wins Its First Ever WGC Championship

LOGAN— Utah State gymnastics won its first-ever Western Gymnastics Conference Championship March 25 in Fullerton, Calif., with a 195.150. It was the first ever conference title for the Aggies since the WGC started four years ago. Utah State (8-8, 6-1), the 16th team in the nation, was followed by #17 Southern Utah (9-8, 5-3) with a score of 194.350, then Boise State (6-15, 2-5), which scored a 193.700 and then Cal State Fullerton (5-17, 0-5), which finished with a 193.550.
 
Coach Ray Corn was named WGC Coach of the Year as well.
 
The gymnastics team now travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for regional competition April 9 at 7 p.m. (MST) it was announced March 28. This is the first time the Aggies have qualified for regionals since 2002.
 
Host Alabama is the number one seed followed by Iowa State, Utah State, Auburn, Kentucky and Kent State. The top two teams will advance to Nationals. Utah State met Kentucky a few weeks ago in a tri-meet at Denver, where the Wildcats won. The Aggies have not finished in the top-three at regionals since 1999, with a third-place finish, the best ever regional finish for the Aggies.
